“AIDEN” Adoption Situation Jacksonville, Florida Original Posting Date: February 20, 2015 DEADLINE TO SUBMIT HOME STUDY: Saturday, February 21 at 10:00 A.M. Note: You MUST have a CURRENT, valid adoption home study to be considered for this situation. If your home study was not approved within the past twelve (12) months, you need not apply for this situation. Note: For various legal reasons, Prospective Adoptive Parents who reside in the following states WILL NOT be considered & need not apply: Connecticut, Kentucky, and New York. Child: Gender: Male DOB: February 18, 2015 Race: Caucasian Aiden was born in Jacksonville, Florida on February 18, 2015. He was born at 36 weeks and 5 days gestation. He weighed 6 pounds 1 ounce at birth and is 19 inches long. He was delivered via C-section. His Apgar scores were 9 and 9. He tested positive for benzodiazepines, marijuana, cocaine, and opiates at birth. As of February 20, 2015, he is beginning to show some symptoms of withdrawal due to his drug exposure during the pregnancy and is expected to stay in the hospital for five (5) to seven (7) days for observation and care, though his stay may be extended depending on his progress through the withdrawal. The nursery nurse working with Aiden has expressed that one of the most important qualities the adoptive parent(s) selected for Aiden must have is patience. Birth Mother: The Birth Mother is thirty-four (34) years of age. She is Caucasian with brown hair and blue eyes. She is attractive with freckles and an olive complexion. She is 5’4″ with a thin build and weighs approximately 120 lbs. when not pregnant. She is described as being smart. The Birth Mother is a high school graduate. The Birth Mother tested positive for opiates, cocaine, marijuana and methadone at the birth of the child. She admits to having used Roxicodone daily and Xanax every other day during the pregnancy. She reports having received no prenatal care. The Birth Mother reports that she has two (2) fluid-filled cysts in her brain. They were discovered in the course of an MRI following an automobile accident in 2006. She has not had any treatment for the cysts. She reports that she has had seizures in the past, although she does not know whether the seizures were related to the cysts. She has not had a seizure in more than three (3) years. Page 2 of 4

The Birth Mother has a daughter who is eleven (11) years of age, who is not the child of the Birth Father. She is healthy and the Birth Mother reports no medical issues for her daughter. She reports that her grandmother passed away from brain cancer when she very advanced in age. The Birth Mother reports no other major medical history for herself or her family. She indicates that she had jaundice when she was born. She reports that she is allergic to penicillin. She reports no mental health history for herself or her family. The Birth Mother has expressed her desire to select a family to adopt Aiden and is willing to execute consents to the adoption. She reports that she seeks adoptive placement for Aiden because she is not stable and is not in a position to care for a child at this time. She has been contacted by the Department of Children and Families regarding Aiden due to the fact that she and Aiden tested positive for drugs when the child was delivered. Birth Father: The Birth Father is forty (40) years of age. He is Caucasian with brown hair and brown eyes. He is 6’0″ and weighs approximately 170 lbs. He describes himself as sensitive, outgoing, and as having a sense of humor. The Birth Father is a high school graduate. The Birth Father has a daughter who is twenty-one (21) years of age, who is not the child of the Birth Mother. She is healthy and the Birth Father reports no medical issues for his daughter. He reports no major medical history or mental health history for himself or his family. He is allergic to pollen. The Birth Father has been in a relationship with the Birth Mother for approximately seven (7) to eight (8) years, though they are not married. The Birth Father is aware of the pregnancy and Aiden’s birth and has expressed his intention to sign an Affidavit of Nonpaternity so that Aiden may be placed for adoption. Fees and Costs: The matched adoptive parents will be responsible for all fees and costs incurred in connection with this situation, including fees and costs incurred PRIOR to being matched. The pre-match fees are anticipated to be $1,500 but could potentially be higher. The estimated fees and costs are as follows:

1. Legal fees and costs are estimated to range between $8,000 and $12,000. That amount may increase or decrease depending on the complexity of the process going forward.

2. Medical costs for the Birth Mother and Aiden are expected to be minimal as the hospital has applied for Pregnancy Medicaid on behalf of both the Birth Mother and Aiden. Any medical costs that are not covered by Pregnancy Medicaid may become the responsibility of the selected adoptive parents if other arrangements (i.e., Medicaid for the child) cannot be made.

3. Birth Mother Expenses: The Birth Mother has indicated that she may need assistance with her reasonable and necessary living expenses up through six (6) weeks after birth as permitted by the applicable Florida Statutes. It is unknown at this time what the amounts of those expenses will be. A very rough estimate of the total living expenses is $2,500.

4. ICPC Factor: If you are not from Florida, estimate $1,500 in addition to the legal fees and costs set forth at paragraph 1 above to cover the cost of the ICPC process.

Timeline: In the event you are selected to adopt Aiden, you must be willing and able to travel to Jacksonville, Florida, as soon as possible, and preferably on Sunday, February 22, 2015. If you reside outside of the State of Florida, please be aware that you must remain in Florida with Aiden until the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC) process is completed and you are approved to return home. This process typically takes from 5 to 10 business days, but could potentially take longer depending on the complexities of the situation and the requirements of your home state. Seeking & Open/Closed Adoption: The Birth Mother is seeking a Caucasian, heterosexual single person or married couple to adopt Aiden. She has no preference as to whether the selected parent(s) has/have children already. Once the Birth Mother makes a selection, she would like to Skype with the prospective adoptive parent(s) for an introduction. She would like to receive letter and photograph updates periodically as Aiden grows up. Initial Retainer Payment: In the event you are selected as Aiden’s prospective adoptive parent(s), you must be willing and able to remit an initial retainer payment for legal fees and costs and Birth Mother expenses in the amount of $7,500.00 to the adoption intermediary via telephonic credit card transaction immediately upon being notified of the match. WARNING: PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THERE IS A SUBSTANTIAL RISK OF LOSING A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MONEY. ALL EXPENDED FUNDS FOR LEGAL FEES AND COSTS AND BIRTH MOTHER EXPENSES ARE NOT REFUNDABLE, SHOULD THE BIRTH PARENT(S) CHANGE HIS/HER MIND OR SHOULD THE ADOPTION NOT REACH FINALIZATION FOR ANY REASON. DEPENDING ON THE TIMING OF THE DECISION TO NOT GO FORWARD WITH THE ADOPTION PLAN, THE AMOUNT OF MONEY EXPENDED CAN BE A LARGE AMOUNT. PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THE PROJECTED FEES AND COSTS LISTED ABOVE ARE, AT BEST, SIMPLY ESTIMATES BASED ON PAST EXPERIENCE AND ASSUMES MINIMAL COMPLICATIONS. EVERY ADOPTION PLAN IS DIFFERENT AND HAS AN INFINITE NUMBER OF POSSIBLE SITUATIONS THAT CAN CAUSE THE COST TO RISE UNEXPECTEDLY.
